Random Musings
Welcome to our new web site! It was a painful process, but we finally made it. Due to circumstances too convoluted to go into, we’ve switched to using www.fundekals.net (vs .com). Hopefully you’ve figured that out if you’ve gotten this far!
Lots of news to pass along. Our F4F Wildcat project, long on the back burner, is now complete and is at Cartograf for printing. We have heard a lot of talk about the new Arma Hobby 1/72 F4F and FM-2 kits. If Arma eventually does a 1/72 F4F-3 version, we may possibly revisit our current aversion to 1/72 WWII subject matter. It’s not that we have anything against 1/72, it’s simply a matter of economics. It costs a lot of money to print decals, and if they don’t sell well enough to even pay for themselves (ie: break even), then we’re losing money on them. Our experience has been that 1/72 WWII subject matter falls squarely into that category, so we’re shying away from doing any more. But don’t lose all hope! The Arma Hobby Wildcats look great, so stay tuned.
Next up after the Grumman kitties will be our 1/48 F4H-1/F-4B sheet. Lots of work in that one, and we’re hoping to have it done before the end of the year, with release sometime in early 2022.
Beyond that, we’re also working on a HYUOOOOGE project that will cover the McDonnell/McDonnell Douglas factory applied stencil data for all of the St. Louis built F-4 variants – F-4B, C, D, E, J. We’re still evaluating the available reference material to see if it’s going to be feasible to include the F-4K and M in that project as well. We have put an enormous amount of work into research on this seemingly “easy” project, and we’ve discovered (with a lot of help) a number of things that nobody has ever documented about the factory applied stencil data before – at least not in the modeling world. If you want to build an accurate model of any F-4 that has its factory applied camouflage and stencil data, this sheet is going to be a must! Stay tuned for more information on this one as we get closer.
We’re always on the prowl for photos of your completed models wearing our decals, so if you’d like to be featured on our Gallery page, please send us your photos and some information on your model (send to info@fundekals.net).
Lots more good stuff to come!
